Retro Cable Channel Lineups

I'm kind of surprised that Jones didn't carry Bakersfield's Channel 17 (which was then KPWR-TV, and affiliated with CBS); I would imagine back then that 2 and 17 would carry the same NFL games, although Bakersfield was outside of the 75-mile blackout zone, they would have been eligible to receive all of the Rams Sunday telecasts.

I guess that would also explain why 17's listings weren't carried in the L.A. Daily News' TV listings, although KERO (23) and KBAK (29) were.

I've lived in both markets and still have ties to Bakersfield. When it comes to football, Bakersfield tends to lean NorCal but not always exclusively like Fresno. Bakersfield has always leaned heavily toward the Raiders (Oakland and LA) on the AFC side and to a lesser extent the Denver Broncos and definitely the 49ers on the NFC side during the Gold Rush era of the team. Nowadays they pick and choose the best match-ups available for that week but when I see those broadcast maps on The506.com Bakersfield has been known to air some head scratching match-ups for no particular reason.

You know what's funny? Cox in San Diego has kept USA, ESPN, MTV, CNN, and HLN on the same channels for almost 30 years now. Usually only the local broadcast channels get that honor.
