Retro: CFUN in Vancouver

I am fascinated by CFUN 14 in Vancouver. I regularly dx'd it from north Seattle in 1975-76. My gawd, they sounded great. Fantastic jocks, high energy, and a general feel of late AM top40. Questions: How did it do during the ratings during this period? Was it a hip station at that point? From my perspective, it was the highest energy top40 anywhere along the west coast, including the US. Perhaps the only one who could compete was Andy Barber at KING-AM out of Seattle. KJR was still sounding good but certainly were not considered high energy during this era. KFRC in SF was good, but quite mellow in comparison. KGW in Portland was quite calm as well. 10Q in LA gave it a good try, but failed, and KFI never really got it right. When did CFUN start to join the slow death of AM top40? Bottom line, Vancouver had one of the greats, atleast for awhile.

CFUN was indeed legendary in the 60's and 70's. I grew up with them, as well as CKLG, KJR, KOL, KING. All great Top 40 stations in their day. Here's a few links you might be interested in.

Yes indeed CFUN was somewhat of a West Coast legend, only second to CHUM 1050 as Canada's premiere Top 40 station.
