WWAY ran its local news at 6, followed by ABC News at 6:30.

R. Farrell is Reed Farrell, I'm almost certain. His talk show came
out of St. Louis, IIRC; somebody correct me on that.

The newscast following his show was probably local; I don't
think WCSC delayed the CBS Morning News.

Do you have any schedules for the UHFs; in particular, Chs.
19 and 25 in Columbia and Ch. 22 in Savannah?

All the News and Courier had were the VHFs from these markets, strangely. Even though they had a large coverage area (going into the Myrtle Beach area, and available as far away as Orangeburg readily), they didn't think those stations had enough reach.

WIS and other stations were carried all around Charleston back then, with them being on the Summerville cable. WSAV and WTOC still have that wide cable carriage.

Went till sign-off

So WCBD signed off after the game ended? Kind of makes you wonder why they didn't air their late local news followed by ABC's late night Wide World specials on this occasion, so soon after the game had ended.

Probably when the paper went to press the assumption
was that the game would end around 12:30 AM; assuming
the ABC affiliates did their late local news after the game,
"Wide World" would have started at around 1 AM, so no
doubt ABC pre-empted it and had no backup plan when the
game ended early. Channel 2 may have decided in advance
to pre-empt the late local news (although I don't know why),
had nothing to fill the open time, and signed off.
