Tim, did whatever your source was actually list this much info on the news team?

I'm presuming that if they did, it certainly wasn't TV Guide!
______________

KM Richards:

This was from TV Guide:They mostly had last names listed though..I knew most of them from having watched them at the time..There was one ..The Channel 8 News at Noon which only had "Jones and Houlihan", which I knew Houlihan as weatherman Bob "Houlihan" Wells but I wasnt sure about Jones..Possibly sportscaster Harry Jones but I wasnt sure he did newscasts so I left it go. Fred DeBrine was the one I did not remember. There is a book I have by Area TV Critics RD Heldenfels and Ton Feran, "Cleveland TV Memories" A neat little book with 365 short snippets of TV history in Cleveland. That is where I got DeBrine's first name..

In general, TV Guide was more complete in listings anyway..If there had been no names I would have not tried to guess.

It would be easier if there werent names..not as much typing but I like to be as accurate and complete as possible..

October 1968. Search stayed at 12:30 and GL moved from 12:45 to 2:30, replacing Art Linkletter's House Party, which moved to 4:00 (bumping Secret Storm to 3:00) until it was cancelled in September 1969 and replaced by reruns of Gomer Pyle, USMC.

Search and GL were the last holdouts for the 15-minute soap format; Secret Storm had gone to the 30-minute format in July 1962, which is when it moved to the aforementioned 4:00 timeslot. Bright Day, CBS' fourth 15-minute soap, was cancelled at the same time.

ABC and NBC never had 15-minute soaps.
______________

We go back to September 9th, 1968, That's when Search for Tomorrow and Guiding Light went to 30 minutes.

When did Channel 17 first go on the air? Is this the same Canton station as today's TBN affiliate WDLI on that channel, or was it like channel 61 where WKBF signed off and a new station came on years later?

I wanted to ask you a question, mjlarochelle:where are the Buffalo and Cleveland
Christmas Eve listings that you promised us a few months ago?

Getting my two cents in (as usual): Virgil Dominic did radio
newscasts on NBC. He went to Atlanta and co-anchored WXIA/11's
Pro News from 1972 to '76 (I know, I watched him almost every
night). After 11 changed to the 11 Alive moniker and replaced
its entire news team, Dominic went back to Cleveland and became
general manager of WJW.

Frank Glieber became a legend in Dallas. He did Cowboys games
for CBS while at the same time doing sports on NBC affiliate
KXAS/5. Verne Lundquist has said that Glieber inspired him to
become a sportscaster. Unfortunately, Glieber died rather young,
at age 51, from a heart attack.

A couple of points on the soaps. Castleman and Podrazik, in
Watching TV, also mention that Search For Tomorrow and Guiding
Light went to 30 minutes each on Sept. 9, 1968. NBC did have
a few 15-minute soaps in the early and mid-1950s; none of them
lasted for more than a few months.
Edited by bpatrick on 08/11/05 06:39 PM.

I haven't forgotten about those, and at the moment I am developing a website that has all those old schedules from Christmas 1994. I just got WGRZ done last night. I should've mentioned I was going to take that approach instead of posting them here...I didn't post them here originally because nobody seemed to be interested in the southern Ontario or Detroit ones.

You've sure got a good memory. Now I'm scared. :)
