As you can see, even large city stations in places like Cleveland offered little daytime fare on weekends in the late 1940s although this would soon change. While all three stations had a basic affiliation with at least one network (channel 9 had agreements with both ABC and DuMont) all three stations, including NBC O&O WNBK, would take other networks' shows depending on the preference of the basic affiliate, and the schedule (WXEL allowed competitors to take some of its networks' shows if they began before WXEL sign-on time).

I'm presuming that the hockey game between the Cleveland Barons and Cincinnati Mohawks was shown live? If so, it was a 10PM faceoff?

I wasn't born then :D but I beleive hockey games were televised during the 3rd Period only, until the early 70's. At least for the NHL.

Does anyone know if that Barons-Mohawks ice hockey game was in Cleveland or Cincinnati?

The Game was at Cleveland Arena and the Barons won 5-1 before 6,891 fans..

Re:Don Winslow..That was actually the serial "Don Winslow of The Navy" on WNBK..Not a Newscast. The primary WNBK newscaster was a gentleman named Ed Wallace..
