Fun fact: For years, General Hospital did not air in Dayton, including the peak Luke and Laura years.

It was mainly due to the presence of WKRC, and later WCPO on cable... and WSYX over the air. WCPO is no longer carried on cable systems in the Dayton area after an agreement between Scripps, Sunrise (WDTN's owners at the time) and Time Warner in 2000.

You would normally think the Dayton station would clear the most popular network soap, however, rather than having people watch it from out of town. I think the roots of that were when WKEF was still ABC and Clubhouse 22 was in that spot. For whatever reason WDTN chose to stay with syndication in that hour when they picked up the ABC affiliation. From this schedule they were skipping One Life to Live.

I had read it was a contractual thing with ABC that WDTN wasn't required to air soap operas after 2pm. I thought it was odd they cleared low rated Loving and The City, but yet didn't GH, the top ABC soap.

With an external antenna, I bet WCPO could still be received OTA in most of Dayton
