Channel 4 pre-empted the NFL completely, even though there would've been enough time for most of a 1pm game to air before the Tigers game started.

That and as noted, the Lions had a primetime game on WJBK (a simulcast from TNT, in their first season of splitting the Sunday Night package with ESPN). If I would venture a guess why WDIV didn't air a NFL game that day, they probably couldn't risk the early game going past its time, and going into its Tigers coverage.

For what's it's worth, NBC's scheduled game that day were Patriots at Bengals, Chargers at Browns, Colts at Oilers, Chiefs at Packers, Dolphins at Giants (early games); Seahawks at Broncos, Steelers at Raiders (late games). As noted in the CBS listings, they had the NFL doubleheader this particular weekend.

The football talk is somewhat amusing to me, because the reason I picked this date was that it was the date The Civil War debuted (and I'm a big Ken Burns fan). LOL

Why was news listed for channel 2 at 7, shouldn't that be 60 Minutes?

Question: Considering the schedule lists Fox shows in the 10:00 p.m. hour on WKBD at that point in time, when did the station launch Saturday and Sunday editions of (the original incarnation of) its 10:00 newscast?

Why was news listed for channel 2 at 7, shouldn't that be 60 Minutes?
Channel 2 was pre-empt crazy with CBS shows. I guess even 60 Minutes wasn't exempt. Later they'd pre-empt This Morning in favor of their own local morning show, Eyewitness Morning. WGPR 62 was actually airing This Morning even before the affiliation swap in 1994 which had CBS going to 62 and Fox to 2 with 50 reverting to an indie for the few weeks before UPN launched. Some other CBS shows pre-empted by WJBK ended up on WADL 38.
