KBOS 94.9 was always a music station Top 40 Rhythmic, and KKAM 1340 "sister station" was News Talk 30 years ago and both were in the old KMAK studios on McKinley near Blackstone, before the Clear Channel Merger with KTHT and KRZR.

It was probably my favorite station after Hot 96 switched to Classic Rock.

I worked in the Fresno market at the time. I believe 96 switched to classic rock the FOX on April 1 1990 (with a sweeper saying it wasn't an April fools joke). I am visiting Fresno right now for the first time in decades and am impressed how they are still in the classic rock format to this day. It sounds like pretty much the same playlist too from when they launched. I admire their consistency.

I loved B95 during that era even if I worked for a competitor. I was in awe of their music because they played so many songs, around half their playlist it seemed, that weren't national hits. Not even hits on other rhythmic but the songs were perfect for Fresno. They also had a very local/ community feel, even for that pre-telecom era.

On this trip to Fresno I didn't think I would like B95, I didn't want to like them because they are owned by iheart but I can't help it, I like them anyway. I like how aggressive they are with the hip hop and I actually like how repetitive they are with the music. They play a lot of music the rhythmic in my market doesn't play (yet) but they rotate it so frequently I became familiar with it all within a day or two. They also throw in some good throwbacks. Not sure I like their "hip hop and hits" positioning. They are pretty much all hip hop but it's not hurting them. They were #1 when I left Fresno 33 years ago and #1 today. Oh that listing that says they were news talk in 1993 is definitely wrong!
