Also, what's up with Channel 5 showing only a 15-minute version of "Headlines On Trial" at the start of the broadcast day, and the full half-hour later that evening?

Yep...what's the distance between KC and Joplin? Were there parts of the KC market that could pick up the Joplin area channels?

Not sure what the reason is there...I always thought HoT was a half-hour show ???

before the days of TV stations buying the remaining tickets, you could still get enough ratings airing an old movie to fill in a blacked out game

I think the Joplin market is outside the blackout radius, Topeka isn't
