in Merv's childhood, when he would play bingo at a local
movie theater and winners got to come up on stage and
"reach for a star" on the curtain, which might be worth as
much as $25. On the show, when contestants gave a correct
answer to a question, they got to "reach for a star" which contained
another question or a stunt to perform, which meant money if the
contestant gave a correct answer or completed the stunt. But while
Merv was away on a business trip, an associate transformed the curtain
into a cutout of a spaceship (the set slightly resembled the Jetsons' apartment);
Merv hated it, but by then it was too late to change it. No matter; the show
lasted only 13 weeks. Sportscaster Bill Mazer was host.)
