If only Fran Allison guest-starred with them.........and if this episode were preserved in color (even without Fran)!

A DVD release of this episode would be something baby-boomers might want to get!
 
By 1960, a lot of TV stations had videotape machines, so it's possible that WAVE-3 Louisville's broadcast of Lawrence Welk might have been on a 90-minute delay (I believe the show was fed live to the Eastern and Central time zones then). WAVE could have taped the live feed from 8 to 9 P.M. CST, and played the tape back at 9:30 CST.

The half-hour between the end of the live show and the start of WAVE's showing it certainly would be more than enough time to rewind and cue-up the tape for playback.
 
Looking at these old Kentucky listings, it's never been clear to me
why WAVE carried Lawrence Welk for only 30 minutes; I'd think he'd
have been popular enough to warrant the full hour. At any rate, once
WLKY came on the air, Welk aired for an hour and in pattern (except
there was one brief period in 1970, just before the end of the ABC run,
when WLKY aired him on a one-week delay at 6:30 and substituted movies
at 8:30; that didn't work, and when ABC rearranged its Saturday-night
schedule in January 1971 it was Welk at 7:30, Pearl Bailey at 8:30, and
Johnny Cash (moved from Wednesday back to his original timeslot, as several
other ABC affiliates did) at 9:30.

We could probably start a whole thread on stations that did move Cash back
to Saturday when ABC gave back 9:30-10:30 (it had already given back 10:30-11).
