I see a show called "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" but the only shows I can think of called this are the Melissa Joan Hart live action and cartoon versions. Who was involved in this version? Was it live action or animated?

...animated; it was a Filmation companion to CBS' Archie cartoons...

FYI: WDRB-TV Louisville celebrates its 40th air anniversary this Monday (Feb. 28, 1971). Any memories?

I remember watching the first sign-on ID and first afternoon's programming..."The Patty Duke Show" reruns, now on thisTV, were featured in those early days on what was then RF Channel 41, now DTV Channel 41.1 (RF channel 49) with Antenna TV on subchannel 41.2.

The "Sabrina" character actually originated in the Archie comic books in 1962..

Wasn't one of their early tv ids something mentioning "Independence television" with fireworks ala "Love American Style"?

That's the one. "Where Independence is Fun!"

WDRB did do a 25th anniversary special. I wonder if they plan a 40th?

I've sent an email to WDRB asking this question and will pass along the answer. It would be nice if they did something like WAVE did on their 40th with the day long session of reruns.

The 25th Anniversary program was hosted and possibly produced by long time employee Ray Foushee. The original owners were part of the program and shared why they settled in Louisville. They had opportunities to begin an independent station in other cities but Louisville had greater UHF penetration thanks to WLKY. Channel 32 was very aggressive attracting viewers from Channel 3 and 11. Since UHF had viewers in Louisville it was believed the best chance of success and they were correct.

WDRB will have a special Berson's Corner feature during their news programs throughout the day on Monday.

A couple of things about Susan Peters: she was only
31 at the time of her death, partly from kidney failure
and partly from depression. The owner of her soap
"Miss Susan", Colgate-Palmolive, had canceled the show
in late 1951. While her health may have been a factor,
Colgate-Palmolive felt that game shows were a better bet
for daytime than soaps (never mind that soaps still dominated
daytime radio, or that CBS had already struck gold on television
with "Search For Tomorrow" and "Love Of Life" when Colgate
made its move). The show's replacement, however, was one
of the most memorable daytime shows of the '50s: "The Big
Payoff," with Bess Myerson modeling the show's top prize, a
mink coat, every day.

Colgate evidently changed its mind about soaps; it owned "The
Doctors," which ran on NBC from 1963 to 1982 and is one of only
three NBC soaps to have lasted more than ten years ("Days Of
Our Lives" and "Another World" are the others; I don't include
"Search For Tomorrow" since 31 of its 35 years were on CBS).
