Interesting. I had thought (or heard) that "Captain Kangaroo" lasted through 1987 in the 8:00am hour, when CBS reclaimed the hour for the expanded morning news (which renamed to CBS This Morning).

7 KABC TV (ABC)
2 PM GENERAL HOSPITAL
3 PM THREE-THREE-O
4 PM EYEWITNESS NEWS (Jerry Dunphy, Christine Lund)

Didn't Oprah begin airing in the 3:00pm slot later on in the month? Or did one of the other LA stations carry Oprah in the beginning, like with KCOP airing "Wheel Of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" before both migrated to KABC?

"Captain Kangaroo" was cut from an hour to 30 minutes
on September 28, 1981, and its timeslot moved to 7 AM.
On January 18, 1982, the Captain was moved to 6:30 AM;
then on September 18, 1982, he began airing weekends
only (Saturday 7-8 AM and Sunday 8-9 AM until September
8, 1984, then Saturday 7:30-8 AM until December 8, 1984).

The shows airing in 1987 were reruns on PBS stations.

First...I think by that time Captain Kangaroo had already moved to PBS by then.

Second...Oprah didn't start in syndication until the following Fall, still being local to Chicago. As for Wheel & Jeopardy...1985-86 was the first year Jeopardy was on KCOP, it originally started on KCBS. It stayed there until about 1989, when J! (and Wheel) moved to KCBS (around the same time the network Wheel moved to CBS). Of course, Fall of '91 was when they moved to KABC.

How long did Jeopardy last on KCBS in its first year?

In Alex Trebek's "The Jeopardy Book", he mentioned that he had a reporter interviewing him. Thinking that Jeopardy was on at that time (during the interview), Alex turned on the TV to the station carrying the show -- only to find that "Quincy" was there instead. A call to KCBS (presumably, as he didn't mention a station) revealed that they dropped the show.

If my memory serves me right...KCBS just had J! the whole 1984-85 TV season.

It's interesting how KCET didn't have Mr. Rogers on in the afternoon, while they had Sesame Street on 4 times a day, with 2 of them being back to back. I saw some KCET schedules from the earlier 80s, and it looks like they kept with this schedule for quite some time. When did they stop having all those airings of SS?
