The track meet on "Wide World Of Sports" was probably televised live and/or same-day.

It was held less than a week after the end of the Summer Olympics in Montreal, so the Russian track team competed there before going home; likewise, I suspect the U.S. track team went there straight from Montreal, although for all I know, the U.S. Olympic track medalists may have come there by way of Washington where then-President Ford may have honored them.
