...interestingly, perhaps because of the country-tinged material Mike Nesmith contributed to the albums, The Monkees were still extremely popular as a musical act in Mexico and performed concerts in several of the bullfighting arenas in Mexico in 1969. Of course, the series left NBC in '68...

During non-Proyeccion Nacional times on the XEW relays, did the relay stations have alternate programming a la the American/Canadian affiliate model, or did they just go off the air?

Interesting that XEW had a hockey game. Last time I was in Mexico was during the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs (2009), and the closest I could get to hockey coverage on digital cable was a brief rundown of NHL scores on ESPN En Español, after all the coverage of soccer, baseball, and NBA basketball. Perhaps only because the Anaheim Ducks were in it.

I presume that the relays ran local programming when they weren't carrying PN programs, but I can't be 100% sure on that...perhaps someone out there may know? ???
