First of all, it's kind of funny that the Gazette did not have any listings for the two stations in Trois-Rivieres -- CHEM-TV ch.8 (TVA) and CKTM ch.13 (SRC), even though it was between Montreal and Quebec City and not too far from Sherbrooke -- why was that?

I assume this was "Marty Robbins' Spotlight", a Showbiz program.

I always thought WGTV in Atlanta was the only PBS station to carry Showbiz shows (when they had Wilburn Brothers).

1. I take it they also carried "Weekend Special" at noon and it was an oversighted omission?

2. Yeah, why pay for a local news staff - there's more money in sports! :D

...I happened to have visited a friend in Dorval, Quebec, the following month, and found it interesting that the Canadian networks would run some programs earlier than the U.S. networks did. I particularly recall CBC running the 1968 movie of Romeo and Juliet one week before ABC did. Here, CTV and CBS are running the same film, Billy Jack, in overlapping time slots. I have to think that there was some bickering between New York and Toronto over this particular scheduling...

Yep, they carried Weekend Special at noon.

The Gazette did carry listings for CKTM at points during its history, but not at that point....

Not much bickering that did this type of scheduling in, but rather the expansion of cable and satellite in Canada and the populatity of simsubbing, in which Canadian networks schedule the same programs at the same time as the US channels.

And by the way, CBC aired "Romeo & Juliet" uncut a week before ABC, when they cut out the nudity for us American pilgrims.

...noticed that. Has Canadian TV always had a more open attitude regarding nudity and sexuality than the Stateside networks? A few years back I taped the 1996 CBC TV-movie Giant Mine from a showing on Encore True Stories and wondered if I'd seen the same cut that the CBC itself ran; theatrically it would have gotten at least a PG-13 if not an R from the MPAA...
