This was the day Roy Orbison died of a heart attack in nearby Hendersonville.

@RandTV do you have the guest roster for the talk shows on this day?
Guests and topics are as follows:

Today: Gene Hackman, Gary Cole.

Good Morning America: Henry Kissinger (discussing Gorbachev's US visit that day), Dan Aykroyd, Cybill Shepherd.

CBS This Morning: Dave Brubeck, Letitia Baldridge, Jean Stapleton, Vernon Walters, Jean Kirkpatrick, Cyrus Vance.

Live With Regis & Kathie Lee: Gene Shalit

Donahue: Children trained to hunt and kill animals.

Sally Jessy Raphael: Victims of holiday season tragedies.

Geraldo: Child molestation. (I was hesitant on whether topics like these were appropriate to post.)

Oprah Winfrey (once lived in Nashville): People maintain habits destructive to their health.

Tonight Show (pre-empted in Nashville by Family Ties and Benson): Paul Reiser, Rebecca Arthur; Musical guest: Diane Schuur. (from Nov. 18, 1987)

One note of interest I omitted, is that some network TV may have been interrupted by news coverage of Gorbachev's arrival in New York, meeting President Reagan and President-elect Vice-President Bush. The summit meeting at Governors Island was held the following day, but Gorbachev left early due to the devastating earthquake in Armenia (then a Soviet Republic).

If I left anything out or need correcting, let me know.
