Wow, I didn't realize Howdy Doody was on that early.

But yeah, it's really amazing that at the time, in Boston there were only 2 channels (3 if you count WJAR).
 
It should have been 3, but Raytheon wasn't ready to put WRTB on the air (and they never did). Funny thing is that there's a small blurb in the guide about a 3rd Boston station coming on soon.

Howdy Doody first aired in December 1947. Buffalo Bob and Howdy made an appearance at Jordan Marsh just after WBZ came on the air in June 1948.
 
"Howdy Doody" aired five days a week at 5:30 from 1948
until June 1956, when it cut back to Saturday mornings at
10 for its final four years. And that was a network (NBC)
practice, not just WBZ's.
