First, I didn't realize John Cameron Swayze's news on NBC started as far back as 1947.

Second, I would imagine it wasn't easy to broadcast boxing from an arena in Jamaica. I wonder how they got the signal from Queens to Manhattan?

That's really close to how they actually did it. The remote trucks used by NBC (and by CBS and DuMont as well) were equipped with early microwave transmitters. They aimed them line-of-sight at network headquarters, which had high rooftop receiving antennas at 30 Rockefeller Plaza (for NBC), the DuMont building in midtown Manhattan, or at CBS HQ on Madison Avenue.
