Wasn't Jack Paar's "Tonight Show" broadcast in color by that point, and taping around 5 or 6 P.M. instead of being done live, as it had been at first??

I have a note about "Masquerade Party." The previous season it had
aired at 10:30 PM Thursdays on NBC as a stopgap replacement for 'The
$64,000 Challenge," which had been scheduled to move from CBS to NBC
in the fall of '58. When sponsors Revlon and P. Lorillard discovered that
staff members (particularly Shirley Bernstein, Leonard's sister) had been
supplying some contestants with the answers, they asked that the show
be canceled; most notably, the testimony of a Church of Christ minister
from Tennessee, Charles "Stoney" Jackson, probably helped seal the fate
of the "Challenge". "Masquerade Party" was thrown into the breach; it was at
that point that Bert Parks became the sixth host of the show.

In the fall of 1959 CBS dropped "Name That Tune" at 7:30 Mondays; there
had been some suspicion that a New York Giants football player, Clifford
Livingston, had been given help; in fact, producer Harry Salter admitted that
he gave new contestants the answers to one or two tunes to help calm them
down (it took three correct identifications to win and move on to the Golden
Medley, so the outcome of the game was still left in doubt). More to the point,
CBS placed a $1000 limit on prize winnings; "Name That Tune"'s top prize was
$25,000. "The Big Payoff" and "Top Dollar" were canceled at the same time.
"Masquerade Party" filled the time until January 1960, when it returned to NBC,
Fridays at 9:30. After its cancellation that fall, it wasn't seen again until 1974,
in a syndicated version with host Richard Dawson and panelists Bill Bixby, Lee
Meriwether, and Nipsey Russell.
