"To Tile Queen's Taste"? Shouldn't that have been To the Queen's Taste? In any case, Ms. Lucas was the first woman to have a cooking show on television, long pre-dating and prefiguring Julia Child.

Pardon for the typo, and yes, Dione Lucas was an early influence on Julia Child. Actually, in the early days of The Food Network in 1993-94 (long before Iron Chef, Bobby Flay, Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri) they even got hold of some kinescopes of her old CBS shows from the 1948-1949 season (when they first went out over the network) and re-ran them.

These early shows from January of '48 wouldn't have been included, because, first of all, the CBS Television Network didn't get started until the first week in April of 1948 (every CBS television production before then was local for a New York audience only). Second, kinescopes were also a few months away from common use so the first 1947-48 season of To The Queen's Taste were live local shows that are probably lost forever. .
