Note; WABD, the DuMont O&O, was in the middle of an experiment to see if morning and midday programming could attract a profitable audience. By the end of 1949 DuMont had scaled back to a 10:45 AM start, although it still programmed extensively in middays while the other stations didn't sign on until midafternoon. It would take another three years for NBC to prove the permanent viability of morning TV with the Today Show .
