ABC/NBC but no CBS on cable? ???

Interesting to see Corrie was aired over there. Is it still shown in Canada?

Correct; no PBS either, for that matter.

I think at the time, there were restrictions on the carriage of American channels not picked up off air; there was a limit of two US channels. These restrictions would be soon lifted, after CANCOM started carrying the Detroit stations.

Yes it is -- CBC is currently showing an hour of Corrie weeknights at 6:30PM (7PM in Newfoundland and Windsor).

At the time CBC went to an hour of Corrie (which means a 5 hr omnibus 7am-noon Sundays), CBC was 9 months behind the UK on episodes, which cheeses viewers off to no end :D...not sure how far CBC's caught up with the new hour-long format.

I would imagine they will catch up pretty quickly. In the UK, Corrie airs for 2.5 hours a week (5 half hour episodes).

If it was about the production and consumption of beer in Canada it would
still be running. ;D
