7PM
2 3 6m 13f Shakespeare Plays
'The Tempest.' The tempest that left a number of shipwreck survivors stranded on a Mediterranean island was no outburst of nature. The storm was magically orchestrated by the island's ruler Prospero (Michael Hordern), who was usurped of his dukedom many years earlier by his brother Antonio (Derek Godfrey). Now, it is in Prospero's realm-an enchanted land inhabited also by his daughter Miranda (Pippa Guard), the sprite Ariel (David Dixon) and the half-human 'thing of darkness' Caliban (Warren Clarke)-that Antonio and some treacherous companions are cast adrift, separated and controlled. Directed by John Gorrie.
4 Prescription for Life
Host Joseph Campanella explores the efforts of missionary doctors and nurses to prevent lives in Third World countries such as Bangladesh, Haiti, Cambodia and India. [Preempts regular programming - which was Dolly & Carol in Nashville. Surprising, since most of eastern ND is farmland and a lot of country listeners.]
5 6f 8d 8w 10 Real People
Scheduled highlights from the 3rd season opener include a convention honoring POWs from World War II and the Korean War; and a woman who designs bikinis for both men and women. Also: Sarah Purcell receives skating lessons from a roller-game team. [Closed-captioned]
9 Sanford & Son
11f All-Star Family Feud
Special: Regular cast members from 'Soap' and 'Eight is Enough' take on those from 'All My Children' and 'General Hospital.' Host: Richard Dawson.
11w 12 13m Dolly & Carol in Nashville
Special: Dolly Parton and Carol Burnett in concert at the Grand Ole Opry. The hour opens with an original song that introduces the duo as a mutual admiration society, then goes country with 'No One Picks Like a Nashville Picker Picks,' a Parton-Burnett duet that is backed by some fancy pickin' on guitars, banjos and fiddles. A variation of this song crops up later in a stylishly choreographed production number that subs 'kicks' for 'picks'. The headliners also team for a gospel medley that includes 'Amazing Grace,' 'Sweet By and By' and 'Let it Shine'; and harmonize on selections from 'heart' songs, such as 'Dear Hearts and Gentle People,' 'Heartbreak Hotel,' 'It's a Heartache' and 'Heartaches by the Number.' And there's comedy: a sketch that casts Burnett as a tombyo and Parton as a homebody-who grows up to steal the neighborhood guys from Carol.
17 Movie
'Branded.' (1950) Alan Ladd poses as a long-lost son to gain wealth, in an outdoor show with more plot than usual-perhaps too much. Ruth: Mona Freeman.

8PM
4 11w 12 13m Movie

5 6f 8d 8w 10 Shogun
Part 3. Romantic feelings could prove dangerous for Mariko (Yoko Shimada), and Anjin-san (Richard Chamberlain), who proves his mettle during an earthquake. Toshiro Mifune, Frankie Sakai.
11f Charlie's Angels
The Angels investigate a pimp who has twice subjected a girl to verbal and physical abuse. Kris: Cheryl Ladd. Juddy: Amy Johnson. Freddie: Richard Lynch. [Postponed from an earlier date.]

9PM

A militant feminist pleads innocent to a pimp's murder, despite overwhelming evidence. Phyllis Davis. [Closed-captioned.]

Quite clever of KMSP to put the original You Bet Your Life (as Best of Groucho) and the Buddy Hackett reboot back-to-back.

Just a quick moment to note a rare W call that the FCC let through in North Dakota, that's WDAY's semi-satellite WDAZ.

WDAY's AM sister is among the 100 oldest broadcast licenses, and received sequentially issued calls the same week in May 1922 as WDAF (KCSP) Kansas City, WDAE Tampa among others. WDAZ was a special request, much like how the FCC allowed WOW-TV Omaha to become WOWT in the 70s after TV was spun off from the radio properties.
