That was the day George Wallace was shot and permanently
paralyzed in a Laurel, MD, shopping center; I remember first
hearing about it a little after 3 PM (CT) (I was living in Birmingham
at the time). So I wonder how much was pre-empted from, say
3 PM on, in order for the networks to provide coverage of the shooting.
