KTEN and KXII both shared NBC programming as secondary affiliates. KTEN carried both ABC and NBC programming from its 1954 sign on until 1998, when it became exclusively NBC. Ironically today, ABC is seen on one of KTEN's subchannels.

I lived in OKC in 1985, and was impressed with the tv market. (radio was quite good back then as well). Garth Brooks was discovered by local OKC tv, if I recall. There was a lot of talent that came through the market and moved to the bigs, among them Mary Hart.

Both Channel 25 and Channel 34 signed on within 7 weeks of each other. KOKH 25 converted from a part-time secondary educational PBS station to a full-time commercial station October 1, 1979. Channel 34 then signed on November 28, 1979 with a similar format. Both stations were heavy with cartoons, drama shows, and a few classic sitcoms and older movies. Many desirable classic sitcoms and all the recent sitcoms were still airing on the network affiliates at the time. Channel 34 seemed to have plenty of shows from paramount. Eventually some of the other older shows would fall off network channels and move to these 2 stations and KAUT eventually. KAUT would by the way sign on in the fall of 1980 and they had religion from 6-9 AM, news from 9-5 PM, and Subscription TV after 5. By 1981 the news would go till 7 PM. Weekends would have news 9 to noon and religion 6-9 and STV after that. Still the station failed and gradually the local news would be replaced with Business news from Financial News Network. In 1982, the Subscription TV format ended and replacing that would be old movies and westerns. The religion would move to mid mornings weekdays and cartoons would move into mornings. By 1984 KAUT was a conventional independent station as well as the other two. So by 1984 the market had 3 independent stations which was unusual for a city this size.

Tulsa also got its first independent in 1980, 23 KOKI which was not all that strong, relying on old movies, drama shows, westerns, cartoons, and a couple old sitcoms. Channel 41 signed on with various mixes of religious, subscription TV, low budget shows, Business News formats, etc in 1981 and became a conventional independent in 1984, even weaker than KOKI. A religious station signs on Channel 47 in 1985 as well. By 1988 the religious station begins running cartoons and some older sitcoms in the 2-7 PM slot, Channel 23 takes Fox, is sold to Clear Channel and becomes a stronger station. Channel 41 goes dark in late in the 80's. Channel 41 signs back on in the early 90's with religion and paid programming, but evolves to a barter syndicated entertainment format by the end of 1991 with cartoons, some sitcoms, lots of talk shows, and some low budget movies. In 1994, KOKI takes over Channel 41 and that station becomes the UPN affiliate. But Tulsa had some weak stations back in the 80's.
