SPECIAL: 'The Great Billion Dollar Mail Case' is the first 60-minute program of the new season for 'See it Now,' which will be seen monthly at this time. Today Edward R. Murrow and his staff examine the U.S. Post Office in an attempt to explain why the Post Office department operates at an annual deficit of nearly $1 million. The four classes of U.S. mail, none of which, according to the Post Office, shows a profit, are described. The cameras follow a letter through 19 steps, as it is mailed in Manhattan to an address in Cincinnati. These operations, many of which have not changed in 100 years, are compared with the modern-and profit-making-postal systems of Holland and Switzerland.
