6:00 Alvin & the Chipmunks

Didn't the "Alvin & The Chipmunks" show that we all know not debut until at least 1983? Was this "The Alvin Show"?

It sounds like "The Alvin Show," although I think most people
think of Alvin and his brothers as "Alvin and the Chipmunks."
I do recall that when NBC had "Alvin And The Chipmunks" on
Saturday mornings, CBS affiliate WHIO Dayton ran the original
"Alvin Show" later in the morning (11:30 AM, IIRC) and used the
"Alvin Show" title to avoid confusion.

As for the back-to-back episodes of "Hee Haw" it sounds like
something pre-empted it at its regular time the week before,
and this was a way to catch up. Did KPHO, by chance, carry
Phoenix Suns games then?

For the record, there was no game on 4/14/1979. The first round of the NBA playoffs between the Suns and Trailblazers was on 4/10, 4/13, and 4/15 (Best of 3 in those days). The Suns won the series 2 games to 1.

According to Wikipedia (so take it with a truckload of salt), then-KTAR-TV/12 carried Suns games from Day One in 1968 (KTAR owner Karl Eller was also one of the founders of the Suns) until the '80s when they went to then-independent KNXV-TV/15. But according to PhxSuns.net, they were on KTAR/KPHX from 1968-74 and 1979-85, KPHO from 1974-79, and KNXV from 1985-88 before moving to KUTP/45 (which ended after this season).

...I'm assuming you meant to say KTAR/KPNX; KPHX is of course that one-lung AM station on 1480 kHz that's connected to the Suns only by being on different stretches of Washington Street ;D ...

7:00 Godzilla
...okeh, KOAI wasn't running NBC's calendestine repeat of The Bay City Rollers Show at 6:30 ;D ...
11:30 Marlo & the Magic Movie Machine
...good kid's show. Easily qualify for an E/I today. Did I read somewhere that the master tapes of this one no longer exist? Pity if true...
10:30 Saturday Night Live (host Milton Berle/music by Ornette Coleman)
...Ornette Coleman was the musical guest for Berle Night??? No wonder things went awry ;D ...
KPHO 5-Ind Phoenix
5:30 Night Gallery
...first time I've ever seen Night Gallery in early mornings...
KTAR 12-NBC Phoenix
mid. Juke-Box (Twiggy welcomes Sailor, Climax Blues Band, and David Essex)
...of course, none of those acts were in the studio with Twiggy, since the music for this series was cribbed from old episodes of London Weekend's Supersonic; the episode listings at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/e.watkins/musictv/Supersonic.htm suggest the music for this broadcast came from the 4 October 1976 LWT program...

...interesting to note no presence of a wrestling show, as I know Verne Gagne was running AWA cards in Phoenix for years. Did any of the stations (KPHO?) perhaps run All-Star Wrestling on Friday nights or Sundays instead (like WCIU/26 Chicago did)?...

Yes, KPNX, including (the former) KTYL-TV, KVAR, and KTAR-TV, but not KPHX, KPKX, or KFNX (and no, I don't know what their Dewey point is). ;D

Actually, USAirways Center (the home of Your Phoenix Suns!) is at 201 E. Jefferson St., not Washington.

...but isn't there a Washington Street entrance on that building? Or does one street branch off into the other near there?...

USAirways Center and Chase Field are on the south side of Jefferson St.. Washington is one block north. Jackson St. is at the back of the arenas, one block south of Jefferson, with (Alice) Cooperstown directly across the street on Jackson.

Jefferson merges into Washington at 26th St. - 3 miles east of downtown.

...okeh. My bad. I just recalled passing the place on the way to KPHX a few times and thought they were on the same street...

I was wondering if, possibly, there was a Suns game on April 7 that pre-empted "Hee Haw," and that KPHO was playing both that show and the one scheduled for April 14. Unlike most syndicated shows in that era of bicycling, "Hee Haw" and Lawrence Welk nearly always aired the same show the same week on every station, but individual stations might have to play catch-up occasionally if they had to pre-empt one or the other.

6:30 Copper State Cavalcade (was this syndied in Tucson?)

Copperstate Cavalcade was produced by KOOL-TV, it was a monthly Arizona history/culture program sponsored by Phelps Dodge that ran up to the network change at ch 10 to Fox. It was shown in Tucson on KOLD-TV...how KOAI(KNAZ) was able to show it is a mystery, due to the fact that KOOL-TV was available on translator in Flagstaff ???

Forgot about Yuma, when I asked that question...was it shown there as well?

Interesting how KTVK, the ABC affiliate was carrying Carrascolendas at 6:30am (a PBS show) at the same time as KAET, the PBS outlet was carrying Open Captioned ABC News... Things that make you go "Hmmmm..." ;)

...IIRC, Carrascolendas had ceased production the previous year and KLRN/9 San Antonio, which owned and produced the series, made available a commercial edit of the series to stations interested in carrying it. Apparently, KTVK was one of those stations...
