No nothing from NBC till basketball. This is when network stations began shutting out cartoons for local news. I think WPXI was the first in the country to do this. KDKA followed suit, then it began catching on nationally culminating in the summer of '92 with NBC replacing Saturday cartoons with the Saturday Today show.

I know that WHO 13 in Des Moines aired News after the today show on Saturday Morning with maybe an hour or two of NBC Saturday morning shows before syndicated or sports programming. With the shows they didn't air they aired on Sunday Morning after their News and meet the press.

NBC cartoon block was replaced by TNBC for teen audiences soon after.

For what it's worth, the NBC Saturday morning lineup around this time that WPXI preempted was:

8a - Camp Candy (cartoon with John Candy running a summer camp),
8:30a - Captain N and the Super Mario Brothers (Nintendo related)
9:30a - Gravedale High (teenage monsters in high school with the teacher voiced by Rick Moranis)
10a - Kid N Play (cartoon featuring the rap group, as this was when the House Party movies were in the theaters)
10:30a - Alvin and the Chipmunks
11a - Saved By the Bell
11:30a - Guys Next Door (a Saved By the Bell-esque show about a boy band)
