WNEU was Pittsburgh’s first LPTV station. They went on the air in late ’86 or early ’87 as I recall. They broadcast with a few hundred watts from the WDUQ tower (now WESA) on Mount Washington. Later they boosted power a bit and moved out to the original WJAS site in Beechview. Their programming consisted largely of old movies, many of them foreign films with subtitles. Eventually though they would become all home shopping. They are no longer around. I believe they missed a filing deadline for converting to digital.

I find it interesting that WJAC is listed but not WWCP, the Johnstown Fox affiliate on VHF 8 that signed on about the same time as WNEU. That was watched by many people in the Pittsburgh area. At our house we could get WWCP but never could receive WJAC.

Robert Bianco, the guest mentioned for the 5:30 show on WQED, was at the time the TV and Radio Critic for the old Pittsburgh Press.

The two-hour late Sunday night blocs of Hawaii Five-O on KDKA are well remembered and were popular for many years.
