Since you also used "Tele" as a source, did that magazine go into detail on what was on the PBS stations and TVO?

Tele did carry the full day's listings, but my copy is from 2 weeks prior so I didn't know for 100% certain as if to whether what they listed was the regular schedule...18 wasn't listed by Tele, but TVO and 57 was (as well as WETK 33).

I can fill in some of the blanks based on the Tele listings, but I can't guarantee its accuracy 100% (neither the Montreal Gazette or Ottawa Citizen listings from that week were archived by Google):

WCFE 57

Interesting that in those days, Quebec TV viewers could choose from three popular television guides: TV Guide (Montreal-Ottawa edition), TV Hebdo (which was associated with Canadian TV Guide) and Tele. I always wondered how Quebec could support two French-language television guides. Even in heavily Latin markets, there never was a Spanish-language television guide, although Mexico had TV Guia, which was their version of TV Guide. I believe they had one for Mexico City and a national edition.

For a while, when the cover and most articles in Canadian TV Guide were the same as in the U.S., the Montreal-Ottawa edition of TV Guide was disributed in the Burlington VT-Plattsburgh NY market. That ended some years later when the Canadian Govenment required different editions of Time, Newsweek and TV Guide (maybe a few other big magazines). So then Burlington and Plattsburgh got the Vermont edition of TV Guide, which may have been amended to include the Montreal and Sherbrooke VHF stations, since they were carried on many cable systems in Northern Vermont and NY State near the border.

I understand that Canadian TV Guide now limits itself to Toronto TV listings, believing stations in other parts of Canada run pretty much the same porgramming. I don't know if TV Hebdo or Tele still publishes.

I think "Tele" was not a standalone TV magazine but a newspaper supplement to Le Journal de Montreal.

The Canadian TVG ceased publication in November 2006 -- by then, it was reduced to two editions -- one for Eastern Canada (Ontario and eastward), and another for Western Canada (Manitoba and westward). Its website still exists, and they still publish occasional specials (such as a Princess Diana special in 2007 and a Food Network special issue in 2010.

On its website, its listings come from Zap2it, which provides listings for almost anywhere in Canada and the US -- in fact, I use the Canadian TVG website on occasion to consult listings for my local Tampa Bay stations.

Yes, they both do, though Quebecor now publishes TV Hebdo, which they generally use as a marketing tool for Quebecor's TVA network and its specialty channels. And while they streamlined the listings a bit, as of 2009, they are still behind the times for some listings (they still listed WTOL, WMTW, WROC, WHEC, WUTV and WHAM, even though no cable system in its coverage area offers them anymore).

Sorry for going off-topic, but many European countries have a huge number of TV listings magazines, many of which have large circulations. For example, here is a comparison of Britain's seven major TV guides:

Some countries, such as Germany, have even more.

Right city, wrong journal...it was actually the supplement for La Presse. It was also syndied to Le Droit (Ottawa/Hull), La Voix de l'Est (Granby), La Tribune (Sherbrooke), and Le Nouvelliste (Trois-Rivieres).

Those channels are still in there today. As for Tele, it's still around (sort of), but is now called Voila! and is now carried in all Quebec franco dailies (except the Le Journals) and Le Droit. From my recent trip to Eastern Quebec, Le Journal de Quebec's supplement now runs a similar format to Voila! as well.

OK, I think I remember the third TV magazine in Quebec... it was 7 Jours. I remember at check out stands, there was a second French language TV magazine.

I was also impressed with how much information was included in the write ups for Prime Time TV shows. Either TV Hebdo or 7 Jours included the title of the episode when giving listings for U.S. TV shows. TV Guide never did that. (Viewers wouldn't likely know the title since including that in the credits went out in the 70s or earlier.) They also gave longer lists of cast names than Canadian or U.S. TV Guide. And both TV Hebdo and 7 Jours provincial editions had very long lists of TV stations, covering all over Quebec, from Ottawa-Hull to Matane. TV Guide stuck with Montreal, Ottawa, Sherbrooke and Trois-Rivieres for the SRC, TVA and TQS stations. For CBC and Global stations, they only included the Montreal and Ottawa channels. And Tele-Quebec was limited to just Channel 17, its Montreal station.

I also thought it was odd that Canadian TV Guide would print program details in French for French-language TV shows but TV Hebdo and 7 Jours wrote up the English-language show details in French. U.S. TV Guide also wrote up program details for Spanish-language TV shows in Spanish.

From 1983 to 1987, there was a TV magazine called "L'Horaire TV", a supplement to "La Semaine" (not to be confused with the "La Semaine" that exists today).

I can show you some pages from L'Horaire TV as soon as possible.

Was "La Semaine" a supermarket tabloid of sorts?

I recall another tabloid, "Échos Vedettes" (I think) also having a TV magazine included, which featured listings given European style (each channel given its own column). As Quebecor publishes that magazine today, I don't know if Échos still publishes it today, as it would compete with TV Hebdo.

Another tabloid, "7 Jours", also included a "TV 7 Jours" supplement, which was basically the same magazine as TV Hebdo, but with a different cover. That tabloid was available with or without magazine, with the edition with the magazine costing more. Don't know if they still have a Tv supplement, though last time I heard, it was basically just the grids or something.

Echos Vedettes still publishes a TV section, with their listings still done Euro-style, but also with a primetime grid as well. 7 Jours is a TVA-owned magazine, which like TVH mainly promotes TVA's programming; TV7J's listings primarily focus on the Montreal-to-Quebec City corridor with listings only covering 6am-midnight.
