On that day in Carmel, Betty White and husband Allen Ludden (host of "Password Plus") were celebrating his 63rd birthday at their vacation home. Two days later, Allen slipped into a coma in what was originally thought to have been a stroke, was actually high levels of calcium from medication for his stomach cancer. Unable to continue his hosting duties, close friend and colleague Tom Kennedy became permanent successor on "Password Plus". Ludden would succumb to his illness on June 9, 1981.
