Wasn't The Price Is Right the 10:30 AM show on channel 4? I know it moved to 11 AM on New Year's Eve.

And SOAP OPERAS as early as 9:00 AM in 1956 !! Who'd have thought THAT??

Once upon a time in the not so distant PAST nowadays, a soap opera on THAT early was TIME SHIFTED FROM THE ORIGINAL AIRDATE

Now, you NEVER see ANYTHING BUT some talk show or Courtroom show on that early (Even the Today show shifts to more of a talk show & The Price Is Right doesn't even come on till 11:00/10:00 AM on CBS)

My how the times have changed.....

Back in the days when soap operas used dramatic organ music.

I'm struck by the lack of newscasts. The 7:45 news on KRON 4 is likely John Cameron Swayze with NBC News. We see KPIX 5 has Douglas Edwards and CBS News at 6:15. It seems KPIX also has a local ten minute newscast at 1:30 pm with Les Paul & Mary Ford doing a five minute syndicated show at 1:40 pm. That's it for KRON and KPIX. No evening news, no late night news. Maybe a few headlines at sign-off?

And during this era, ABC ran its network news late. It usually aired at 10:30pm on the East Coast, so stations could either do a local newscast at 10:45 or start their late movie earlier than their competitors. We see here that KGO runs ABC News with John Daly at 11pm. Daly was the anchor and news director at the ABC Network, but made an equal amount of money hosting What's My Line? Sunday evenings at 10:30 on CBS. Rare for someone to be on two networks doing two totally different types of show.

I also see KGO 7 has something called San Francisco Tonight at 11:15. I wonder if that was a mix of local news and local talk? Or was it just a San Francisco version of The Tonight Show?

And KOVR 13 Mount Diablo is an interesting story I just read on Wikipedia. It started as an independent station for San Francisco and San Jose before moving to Stockton and becoming the ABC affiliate for Sacramento.
