Retro shows on CHR

WYOY in Jackson just started an 80s/90s retro show weekdays at noon. Since they lean slightly towards the adult side, this could probably work out good for them. I also listened to a noon retro show on WWCK Flint when I was in Michigan in November. I believe they, too, lean toward adults. They even had a 90s flashback weekend that featured hits from the 90s scattered about each hour.

Is this the best way to bring the adults back to CHR? <P ID="signature">______________

WKSC had "Back In The Day Buffet" from 2003-This year from Noon-12:30. It was very stale but at times got interesting. Went from the 80s-Recurrent.

If you have a severe bout of insomnia at 4AM on a Saturday morning, you can listen to "Backtraxx '90s with Kid Kelley" on New York's Z-100 until 6AM.

We do a weekly "Friday Flashback" 2-hour block from 8-10am - and it's HUGE! Brings in listeners we don't even normally have the rest of the week. I get comments all the time from adults 35-54 who'll tell me (guys in particular) that they check out that show when their normal "P1" station might otherwise be a classic rock or rock station.

It doesn't hurt us... the CHR audience hears an '80s or early '90s retro song once an hour during at-work listening, anyhow, so we bridge that gap and make a good portion of these tunes "familiar" to our everyday CHR audience. And I view these songs as a "reassurance" for 25-54 listeners who might not feel they still "completely" relate to our station with the fringe hits from rock and hip-hop (which get their due dayparting, anyhow). These spiked retros let 'em know we're still "they're" station and haven't forgotten "their" generation, either.

Q 94 Richmond has flashback Friday from 6am-6pm

Probably.........2 of the 3 CHRs in my area do retro lunch. Both sound hot AC anyways during the day and CHR at night, the 3rd (a Clear channel station) did air an 80s/90s lunch (but was otherwise a pretty stragiht foreward CHR) but was dumped when CC came in.

I think retro shows would be great for certain markets, especially ones which get a nice tourist flow (ie. Miami, Tampa, New York, Las Vegas)... For example, a lot of people head south to Miami for their known "Drums and Bass" in the the dance scene. Of course, they'd need to programing specifically towards their market. New York wouldn't sound as "tropical" as Miami... Reasoning for markets with a tourist flow is this, tourist listen to the radio in between seeing the attractions; if the market has a different sound then whatever their normal market is - it gives them a "new" sensation/feel, and they'll enjoy it... maybe even want to come back sooner than they expected.Just a glimpse of an idea.

WRVW 107.5 The River in Nashville, TN has Backtraxx on Sunday morning and a Sunday night 90s show. I like the Sunday night show, but Kid Kelley or whatever his name is sounds like a kid at a Radio Disney station!

I'm not a fan of the retro lunch / retro hour concept. I live en Miami, and thankfully Y-100.7 doesn't do one. If they did then I'd listen to a CD instead. When I'm on a road-trip and the CHR-POP station that I'm listening to goes retro for an hour I immediately press the 'CD' button. I don't mind one or two retro songs an hour (evenly-spaced), but I can't deal with an entire hour (or show) of it. My idea of 'retro' is nothing like CHR-POP radio's idea of it.THE MAJOR
