Quite odd that Channel 5 in West Palm bumped a nearly-6-month-old Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson for the Westinghouse-syndicated Steve Allen show.

(1) The "physics" (6am on 5 & 7) had to be part of the series "Continental Classroom," which ended that year or a year later.
(2) Ch 7 ran "Girl Talk" at 1:30pm well into the late 60s, bumping Monty Hall's "Let's Make a Deal" daily...we had to view it on the fuzzy ch 5. LMAD being the giant that it was, that one was a head-scratcher. (I believe that during this time, NBC had no programming at 1:30pm.)
(3) "Fun Boat" (9am ch 10) was "Banjo Billy's Funboat" which was a quite popular kiddie show which ran many years after, as did "Popeye Playhouse" (7:15am ch 4).
(4) Oh and you'll notice, neither 5 nor 7 ran "Match Game" during this period; both would eventually carry it, but ch 7 ran it on a week-delay at 1pm. Ch 5 ran it in pattern for a few years, but it *also* had it at 1pm toward the end of Match Game's run, on a one DAY delay, which meant that new celebrities would appear every Tuesday!

That's what I thought on that too, I just posted how it was listed... For anyone out there, couldn't find a lot of info on CBS in WPB in 1963-was ch 4 the de facto Eye affiliate for both Miami and WPB at the time?

Pretty much. WTVX Ft. Pierce signed on later as CBS, but initially their signal couldn't even reach WPB.

I'm sure Chris will correct me if I'm wrong (not that I ever am!), but, no, WPB had no full CBS affiliate at the time, so would have depended on Miami for their CBS. In the northern reaches of what would be considered the WPB market, WTVX-34 had been established, serving Ft. Pierce/Vero Beach, but given that UHF was still relatively unwatched, and WTVX was very lo-power initially (about 6 kw ERP, IIRC), it was not much of a factor in WBP until CATV became more widespread.

EDIT: I see Chris already beat me to the punch...must have posted mere seconds before I did. ;)

Interesting that 12 West Palm Beach didn't sign off till around 4:30AM.......almost unheard of
in 1963......and they were not a large market.

^ Speaking as a TV DXer----I long for the days of sign-offs again :) Yes indeed, good to catch that on ch 12 there. Miami market did not feature all-night programming as the norm, until about 1972 with Dave Dixon on ch 51. Talk about camp!
