Retro Television Network

I must say it is nice to see their programming. In a way, it is what TV Land was when it first started. Hopefully they will not add crap later on like TV Land did and stick with only classic TV shows. It is hard to find as one of the few ways to see it is through over the air digital broadcasting (it's an additional digital channel of an established TV station). It is carried on some cable systems but usually only on the upper digital tiers which means if you have expanded basic cable, you can't get it unless you upgrade. I haven't heard that Dish or DirectTV are carrying the Network feed.

The unique thing for this network is each market can choose what they want to carry. In Atlanta, WSB 2.2 dropped RTN's late night live show, Unreliable Sources, and carries The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.

If you are fortunate enough to get this network in your TV market and haven't checked it out, you are missing out.

Their web site address is: http://www.myretrotv.com/
There is a page to let you know which cities are receiving RTN.

I'm lucky enough to live in San Francisco, where this network does have a local affiliate. They're running some darn good television, some nights I put it on at 8 at night and never change the channel till I go to bed.

RTN for me is on Channel 7-2 KAIL-DT Fresno. The SF Bay Area Market states that KRON-DT.3 is supposed to have the station on, but instead, it does not. In Sacto, it seems that KQCA 58.2 (RF 46.2) will likely carry the feed.

I can tell you that RTN is a truly welcomed addition to the Southern New England airwaves. It is being sent via WJAR 10.2, which previously was an outlet for NBC's Weather Plus. I'm really enjoying McHale's Navy, It Takes A Thief and a certain show that I have not seen in over 40 years, Batchelor Father starring John Forsythe, the late Sammee Tong and one of own locals Noreen Corcoran from Quincy, Massachusetts. Hard to believe that this was the same John Forsythe who went on to bigger and better things as "Blake Carrington" on the nighttime soap "Dynasty". I believe that RTN is also available on WCDC 19.2 (RF Channel 36) in Adams, MA (a full-time satellite of WTEN in Albany, NY). Kudos to WJAR for bringing some great programming from Retro Televison Network. It's a big favorite on my digital set!

I would like for RTN to make deals with various syndicators for shows that are not currently all over the dial. I'd like to see "The Real McCoys", "Mister Ed", "M Squad" [it's a Universal-Revue show, why not add that?], as well as other classics that aren't seen anywhere.

Didn't RTN at one time have an affiliate in Denver?

Last year I was checking out their list of affilates and I could have sworn they had an affiliate there. However I am pretty sure it wasn't on any subchannel of any of the major stations there but rather I believe it was on some LPTV channel.

Today I went back to the RTN site and saw where as of today, no affilates not only in Denver but anywhere in Colorado for that matter.

Wonder what happened or if I was "seeing things" LOL

There was indeed an RTN affiliate in Denver, KDEV-LP channel 39. However, that station is owned by Equity; when the nasty breakup occurred between Equity and RTN in January, Luken (the new owner of RTN) disaffiliated all RTN affiliates owned by Equity. Now known as KQDK-LP, it is unknown what that station is carrying now.

I remember two shows produced by RTN itself. What were they called? I could only see them for about a month before they disappeared (WHBF-DT became "RTN4" during the holidays in 2008). Will they ever return?

We don't have this in Chicago, but we do have Me-TV which shows similar shows.

Iowan, one of the shows we had in Atlanta was Unreliable Sources. Kind of ridiculous for the Atlanta market to drop it since the show originates at 1AM in Chattanooga (two hours north of us). But WSB 2.2 is the sister to WSB 2.1 and was one of the few remaining ABC affiliates in a major TV market not airing Jimmy Kimmel Live until two years ago. We get to see the Alfred Hitchcock Hour instead of Unreliable Sources. I called RTN and they told me WSB had made the change and I would have to take it up with them. Might as well talk to the wall, they are stubborn, otherwise Jimmy Kimmel Live would have been on from day one on their main channel.

I have what is called  Ku-Band Free-To-Air Satellite..Take a dish..(larger than dish or directv) and specially made receivers and LNBF's, with a motor, and scan the sky for unencrypted (Not scrambled) programming..And there are no monthly fees for programming.  I bought my system with part of my income tax in large part for RTN, which has no affiliate in Northeast Ohio.  I get RTN East Coast  and West Coast feeds directly off the bird at 83 degrees west.

I also get a few (very few) network stations and lots of religious and foreign programming..Also live feeds from various News organizations, and some sports feeds..Let me stress that this has nothing to do with "pirating" DBS service..And for most people this would not replace regular Cable or Satellite at all.  I still have Time Warner Digital TV as my main provider..

One of my favorite RTN shows is the 1975 NBC Mystery show "Ellery Queen"..Only wish it werent on once a week. Saturday Night at 1AM..

Well, I hate to be disagreeable but my general opinion about RTN is that other than a few precious shows ("Beaver"-early mornings, "Alfred Hitchcock" late nights and "Jack Benny" on Sunday nights) their programming is pretty abysmal. I mean, Banacek? Airwolf?... Freakin' Airwolf? The A Team? Good Lord, their M-F Prime time line-up is laughable. Someone mentioned "McHales Navy." When do they run that, at 7am Sundays? "Rockford Files" late afternoons is o-k but overall RTN is a BIG disappointment to me.

RTV (new name) recently gained low power affiliates in Cleveland, Akron and Canton, Ohio, so I dont have to rely on Free-To-Air for it..While to some RTV could use improvement in some areas..it beats TV Land by a mile..McHale's Navy is shown here (Canton) 1-2 PM weekdays..

I never got to watch RTN/RTV regularly, but I liked the lineup a lot better when they had their deal with CBS for programming and during that time they were definitely better than TV Land. But then I've read where they lost the rights to the CBS programming during their bankruptcy, which is their own fault. Since then most of the programming is coming from Universal, and I agree it has gone downhill.

Although it's far from perfect, to me WGN America has become the best alternative to TV Land when they have retro programming. I just wish they'd do more.

I agree. I enjoy watching "McHale's Navy" and usually leave it on for "Beaver" and "Adam-12" but that's about it. I didn't watch the rest of their lineup when it was originally aired and don't watch them now. Seems like of like a lower-frenzy Spike-TV.

Actually, RTV's former owners, Equity Broadcasting, are to blame for that. Then the network was sold off. Then the network bit back at Equity.

Actually, KQCA carries THIS TV, a network showing mostly old Movies and TV Shows, courtesy of MGM (whos film library includes UA, AIP, ORION, FILMWAYS, CANNON, and Post 1986 MGM).

I do enjoy watching the Midnight Monster Hop from time to time on RTV. Depends on the movie. Plus it airs at 10PM on WCMH 4.2. To Catch a Thief isn't bad as well.

RTV is messin' up again...re-running the same shows that ran just the week before. They were doing this on sunday. There's really no excuse for that. Pitiful.
