Retro: This Week in TV Guide, October 4, 1980 - MN State Edition

This week, meet one of the stars of Lou Grant, watch the big movies coming to TV, find out what the ratings system really means, read about a channel that plans nothing but news, and more!

http://www.itsabouttv.com/2014/10/this-week-in-tv-guide-october-4-1980.html

As always your comments, positive as well as negative, are most welcome.

This week's listing is from Friday, October 10. I'm concentrating on the stations in MSP and Duluth, and one of the first things I notice is that Channel 2 has really expanded their broadcasting schedule from the days of the early '60s. Several of the channels have different call letters than in the past, and a couple even have new affiliations. Question: is the programming any better?

Interesting to see Channel 7 out of Alexandria as a stand alone station before they were bought by Midwest Communications(owners of WCCO at the time) and became a satellite station of WCCO

Fun to see what ABC stations had scheduled for AFTER Game 3 of the NLCS. My guess is none of the after game programs aired on ABC as Game 3 of the 1980 NLCS went 11 innings and took 3:22 to play. If game 3 started right at 2 PM CT that meant it was almost 5:30 before the game ended and my guess is ABC kept till then and just went to World News Tonight at the scheduled time. FWIW I still remember not being home that night. My dad was coaching High School Football that season and despite being only in the 3rd grade I went to all our games that year and we were playing on this night.

What normally aired from 3:00 to 5:30 on this station?

Sorry to bump BUT according to the Minneapolis Tribune TV listings at 3 PM was Match Game. Starsky and Hutch aired from 3:30-4:30 PM Happy Days at 4:30 and Prisoner in Cell Block B at 5 PM. KSTP started THEIR 5 PM newscast in November 1980
