Having grown up in this area, this listing brings back a lot of memories. Especially the Mr. Moto movie (though I remember them mostly on Saturday afternoons). They were part of a package with Charlie Chan and Basil Rathborne-era Sherlock Holmes. Anyone else see these movies in their areas? Some other thoughts...
--A lot of programs that I'd assume were already in mothballs, from "This Is The Life" to "Police Story".
--I'm not sure which is odder, that the forgettable "Matt Houston" was syndicated or that they aired it at 9:30am Sunday.
--Lawrence Welk already in PBS reruns? When did the public TV reruns start?

You grew up in Yakima, or Tri-Cities? I get all of my microfilm copies at the Downtown Yakima Library. They have Yakima Herald going back to about 1895 or so, up to September 2014. Yes, you would think 2014 would all be archived ONLINE...but there's still film copies.
I notice that some of the later 1990s YH-R's do not have any of the Sunday TV inserts on the film. Proof? I looked at the microfilm reel from January 1997. No Sunday inserts at all.
I went there today and got two more microfilm listings, 1983 and 1992. The 1983 listing has cable lineups for all of the Yakima Valley cable systems - McCaw and Cox. Little would you know, 30+ years later it's ALL Charter!

I should post those cable lineups.

You grew up in Yakima, or Tri-Cities?

I grew up in a small town 20 miles south of Yakima, so we only got the Yakima stations. I've occasionally looked up the microfilm too, and noticed the TV inserts only started around 1970 (before then they'd just print the week's listings in the main section of the paper). There's a good reason why; Yakima didn't get a third commercial station until that year.

Ah, either Toppenish or Zillah! I have relatives in Wapato, and we visit Legends Casino about twice a year for the buffet/dinners. I spend moree time listening to the variety music format of KYNR-1490 Toppenish than I do with the local FM stations!

(It may look out of order, but Yakima stations are always listed before Seattle and BC stations.)

I take it all of these stations were on cable in Yakima at the time

I believe some were, and some weren't. Some were on Selah's cable, and some were on Ellensburg's cable. KOMO, KING, KIRO can still be seen on Charter in Ellensburg, WA, with the Yakima stations. KSTW was all over WA and parts of BC.

I take it all of these stations were on cable in Yakima at the time
In my area in 1998, the cable system had none of the Western Washington stations except KSTW. (I know for sure they all were on Ellensburg's cable). We also didn't have CHEK; we did have the CBC, but it wasn't CBUT--it was CBC North, the Yukon/NWT feed of the network. On the plus side we had WWOR while Yakima didn't.

Odd! I thought CBUT-2 Vancouver was the default station in WA - the CBUT feed is still carried on most Western WA cable systems. CBC North is a bit of a surprise. Was there any way to tell? Different test pattern after signing off I suppose? Were you also able to get the local CBC News broadcast from CBC North (NWT/YT) and the broadcast in the Inuktitat language?
I suspect you had WWOR EMI (post SyndEx) which was kind of a like a "WGN America" - mostly different programming from NYC WWOR, and no UPN simulcast unlike WGN in WB's first few years. Sometimes the Lower Valley cable got other channels than Yakima itself. A LONG time ago, Nickelodeon was carried in Selah on ch 2, but not at all in Yakima (this was during the Livewire, Pinwheel, You Can't Do That on Television days of the 80s).

Oh it was instantly obvious it was CBC North: all weather was from the Arctic region, announcements and the little news I did see were in some Inuit language, plus the station was on Mountain Time. As far as WWOR, I always assumed it was the NYC feed; all the commercials were NYC-based (I finally got all the jokes about Crazy Eddie and Carvel from "SNL"), and Mets games were on and not blacked out. I moved from the area in 1992, so maybe the EMI feed took over after then.

WWOR EMI Service went on the air around 1990 after SyndEx went into effect. Commercials were mostly national direct-response, PSAs or WWOR EMI promos I believe. They blotted out UPN even though WGN Superstation carried the first few years of The WB.
I should check the weekday listings next week at the downtown library, and find "CBC". Yakima Herald did weekday daytime in a separate area, for M-F. Each evening/overnight had its own listing. CBC North has "Igalaaq", an Inuktitut news broadcast weekdays, and a Cree language newsmagazine aired each week called "Maamuitaau". CBC North was on the Anik satellites, in the clear, for YEARS, until around 2000. I'm sure Danderson used that feed for Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts each Saturday night in season.

After looking at more microfilm today (and I have more listings, 1989 1991 1993 1995 to post) I saw only "News" listed for CBC at 6PM and 11PM. No Inuit language programming was listed. It may have been the "Northbeat" program in English. Inuit news may have been included in the broadcast but it was definitely not listed in the YHR listings.

installLSC: As of late 1986, the only cable system to have CBC North was McCaw Cable in Mid-Valley (Wapato, Toppenish, Zillah area) on channel 6. WWOR was also carried on channel 3, and not carried in Yakima or Ellensburg. The SAME system also offered Discovery Channel in the very early days on channel 19 - the only system at the time to carry it.

There was also a 12-channel system called "Chinook Cable" listed. Was that a cable provider for the Nile/Cliffdell area? They carried KCPQ 13 when no other provider had it.
