Return of Oldies Majic 94.1 WTHZ?????????

Something STRANGE is happening down in Lexington at the WTHZ studios. They pulled the plug on the Oldies a few weeks ago, fired almost everybody and went almost totally Auto-Mat. In recent days while I was flipping the dial, I have heard desperate-sounding young men and women d.j.`s on there asking for DONATIONS!!!! WOW!!!! They go to the K-Love format, fire almost everybody ( a very Christian thing to do), and now they are asking for DONATIONS!!!! WHAT???? And then they press legal action against Cheap Channel and WMAG-FM for using the "Magic" Name. WMAG-FM was Magic 99.5 back in the 1980`s/ early 1990`s. Why would WTHZ-FM care if they use it? By the way, WTHZ was MAJIC (not Magic). What the hell is going on down there? Now, I hear from several sources that 94.1 many now DROP K-Love and go with the feed from Scott Shannon`s TRUE OLDIES CHANNEL- www.trueoldieschannel.com. Has this K-LOVE thing been a STUNT or a big failure (or a little bit of both?). The Oldies format is relly needed in this market and WMAG-FM 99.5 has been playing alot of the old MAJIC 94.1 songs recently. Is a new war between the NEW Majic 94.1 and WMAG-FM 99.5 on the horizon? When will the True Oldies Channel feed replace K-LOVE? Does anyone have any answers on this???? Thanks!!!

I hurrd that the Oldies will be back at 5:30 AM tomorrow morning. Scott Shannon live all morning in Lexington, and good time great oldies all afternoon! [That wasn't you, was it?] It'll be a blast from the past!

Good Times are you on crack??? The owner of 94.1 has leased the station/tower to a company in California that broadcasts the K-Love format. They are the ones begging for money. It's their "mission". I seriously doubt there will be any changes in the near future. I will be amazed if there is. Guess stranger things have happened, but I would imagine the K-Love people would be pretty pissed if Oldies starts playing tomorrow! For your own edification, why don't you Google K-Love and read about them and their mission.

Unless Curtis decides to do Oldies on WCOG in Greensboro, I don't think we'll be hearing any Oldies in this market for a while.

It's all the rage for taping long-form programs. Anybody into oldies or with such deep radio expertise would know that man. But I've probably already said too much.

I hurrd it at Lexington BBQ Saturday. The man in there said Gig felt they gave K-Love a shot, but it just wasn't working out as quickly as they hoped.
They said early in the morning on a Wednesday was the best day for a format switch, to iron out the details while nobody was listening, so that's what they're shooting for.

The fact is that the Majic 94.1 website is still up. Also, WTHZ-FM has been seeking legal action to stop WMAG-FM 99.5 from using the "Magic" name? These things point to the fact that WTHZ-FM may be plaining to use the Majic 94.1 name in the future. Also, many rumors persist that the True Oldies Channel feed will soon be on WTHZ. It is unclear of whether or not WTHZ-FM has an iron-clad contract with "K-Love". Maybe, station owner "Gig" could come on here and explain all of this?????............

If they wanted to protect the name so bad, isn't going K-Love worse than just going automated "majic" songs?

These things point to the fact that WTHZ-FM may be plaining to use the Majic 94.1 name in the future.

Or not. They might point to bad IT, litigious ownership, or any number of other things. You decide. Then get back to us.
If they had billboards still up or a Yellow Pages ad or six, weeks after the change, would that make you think "They're planning to return soon?" Why does a website still being up make you think "There must be some plan to return soon?"

I know, you keep saying that. This is where it persists.

It is unclear of whether or not WTHZ-FM has an iron-clad contract with "K-Love".

I think to invest as much in questioning the whole thing, and denying what other people say about the ideas, you could investigate the contract. Then get back to us. Then let the rumors persist.

Maybe, station owner "Gig" could come on here and explain all of this?????............

He's probably figuring out how to disband the website, count all his K-Love money, and get all the tee times he wants.

Good Lord, Man! Religious broadcasts beg for money. That's so they can continue to pay the stations they have taken over and to broadcast the "word".
As far as why the website is still up....the Hiltons fired Tom Collins and I think he was the one calling the shots on the website. Plus, my guess is they haven't paid the people they contracted to do the website, so it's just sitting there. I'm sure Gig doesn't care. Plus, he can sit back and laugh on the golf course at all the speculation that they might be coming back! ;D

Some hear fail to get my point. Why would K Love take on another ststion when they act like they don`t have enough funds to make it on air until next week? Have you actually HEARD the way that are begging on 94.1 foer money. I believe in giving my fair share to the church, but some of the things that I have heard K Love say are outraegous. I very rarely listen to it. However, on on recent occasion I was scanning the dial and a very hyper lady was on the air co-hosting with some very young high-pitched boy. She was telling people that they might take their vacation funds and give to K-Love instead of going on vacation. I just hope that they aren`t trying to get widows to send in their laste dime (like some TV preachers have done). I believe very much in God and Jesus Christ. However, I don`t think that God wants poor folks to send in ther last dime to the radio station. Is K-Love totally non-profit? Does anyone know how much they paid for the airtime on WTHZ-FM 94.1?? I don't appreciate anyone attacking any of my family, whether or not we personally had issues or not. Gig, his nephew, neice, daughters and wife will always be close to me no matter what happens to this station. I said, I would never comment again, but felt I had to in this instance. BIG APE!

Who was attacking Gig`s family- "Big Ape"? A question was only answered. Many folks found it quite strang that Gig was quoted in the Lexington NC Newspaper about a week before the change about how the Oldies format will get more listeners from around Charolette when the transmitter moves to Faith, NC. Then about a week later, K-LOVE. Many radio stations a least think the listeners on the website and sometimes even on air before a format change. Majic 94.1 did Nothing! No goodbyes, thank yous, etc. One reason why Gig`s repuation has taken a big hit..... The listeners a least deserved something.......

Fact- Majic 94.1 suddenly went dark for a short while and switched to K Love. Fact- Gig had been making comments in the Lexington NC Newspaper about a week earlier about being excited about the Oldies format getting to a latger audience when the Transmitter is moved to Faith, NC. Fact- THe poor staff received half-baked phone calls on SUNDAY AFTERNOON at home about 5:00 PM The day of the blood bath to tell them that they all were basiclly fired. Fact- The Poor listners never recieved ANY explantion- or thanks for their loyality. Fact- The Majic 94.1 website is still up with no thanks to the listeners. Fact- WMAG-FM 99.5 was Magic in this area starting in the 1980`s. When they tried to use their old name, they were blocked by Gig legally. Fact- WTHZ-FM has a horrible reputation in recent years locally of treating employees, listeners and advertisers like dirt. Fact- The whole Majic 94.1 was a horrible bloodbath that affected alot of people and their families. Very sad.... It could have been handled ALOT more with class....
