Return of the Orange County News Channel -- Sort Of

It's not going to happen till July 2, but it was announced today (3/12): KDOC-TV is planning a live 2 hour weekday morning newscast called "Wake Up OC". It's being planned for a 6-8AM M-F time slot. Currently, this is the two-hour block of daily religious programming (700 Club; etc.) At the moment, I don't know if these shows will be shifted to other time slots, or if the contacts simply will not be renewed after June of this year. The station is also picking up HomeTeam from Tribune Entertainment (which was on KTLA I beliveve at various times) The show begins on KDOC Sat. April 28th from 7-8pm. HomeTeam is much like Extreme Makerover:Home Edition. Lastly, the station has accquried the licenes fot the surfing films of Bruce Brown, such as "Endless Summer" and "Endless Summer II" from Image Entertainment. This plan is to showcase these films Sunday nights at 8pm beginning Memorial Day weeknd and throughout the summer weeks.

And KDOC has the news staff for this? And they are capable of filling up a two hour block of live and local news?

I suspect that a lot of it in the beginning will be feature fluff and pre-packaged "news/PR" material of the type that gets so many complaints.

IMHO, they are making a mistake at 6am, 9am would be better... too much competition from the LA network O&Os at 6am.
