Return to Clear Channel?

If you are someone who was laid off from Clear Channel…does that preclude you from being considered for employment at Clear Channel?...for all time?

Even if you apply at a different “clusterfiretruck” than you originally worked?

Or even if it is a different job?

I ask because several times I responded to ads for employment at Clear Channel as a "Hail Mary" and a couple of times I even got responses. However after a couple of encouraging short correspondences and once even a call back, I am unceremoniously ignored.

Any insight?

Maybe they suddenly remembered you. Otherwise I have no clue.

It's not a corporate policy. I know of someone in another state who was laid off in one job at CC and hired for another one, at the same station, two years later.

Anytime you leave any company, there's always the question of whether or not you're eligible for rehire. In that respect, Clear Channel is no different. I'm not sure if it's just within the same market or region or company wide, but I've been told Clear Channel requires your manager to notify them whether or not you're eligible for rehire when you leave. Also, from what I've been told, that eligibility, positive or negative, is saved for only one year after you leave.

Regardless of where you've worked or which industry, you should be careful about burning bridges. Your co-workers and managers will always maintain a blacklist in their hearts and minds, and working your way around that will never be easy. There was the morning show at Clear Channel in Little Rock who got the company sued because of how he treated another employee. Think he'll ever work for Clear Channel again? I sure-as-hell wouldn't hire him. I had some friends who worked with Cumulus and agreed to re-up with them only to sign with the competition at the last minute. Given how heavily Cumulus brand managers are involved in programming local stations, I can't imagine them ever working for Cumulus again.
