Revival of CW by Animae/Steampunk kids?

My 12 yr old daughter, who is rapidly becoming an illustrator is deeply into Japanese manga and animae comics.
Apparently there is a LOT of CW printed, and she is super stoked to learn morse code in short order!

There's an Ipad app for learning morse.

Then she says the whole "steam punk" movement is into use of the code.. go figure.

I told her I had a Heathkit code oscillator and key I built in 1972 or so, and she about flipped when I showed her.

So I'm bringing that back up to snuff. I know there's a lot of engineering guys who pounded CW at one time.
I told her if she's good I'll buy her a bug.

2010 and there's kids studying code? Whodathunkit?

Weren't all Boy Scouts supposed to learn Morse Code?

I know a lot of "kiddie" 49 MHz walkie-talkies include a code oscillator button, and often even have a Morse Code alphabet chart printed onto the front panel.

I remember a few years ago Jay Leno did a skit where a telegraph operator and a kid texting on a cell phone both had to transmit the same sentence, and of course the telegraph operator was able to do it more quickly.

Wish I'd seen that Jay Leno bit!

That's probably why I've only ever sent about 3 text messages in my life from a cell phone.
I immediately reject such a slow cantankerous multi-button selection of each character, then pause, etc.
I could have the whole idea across in a voice call in less time than it takes to write 6 words by multi-punching.
Costs more than texting, so what?
