I had a chance to listen to this last Friday night (April 5). It sounds amazing. (I just posted a topic about this on the '80s/'90s board and included a sample playlist.)
I agree though; it won't last. It's too good. It sounds a like like a Rhythmic AC station with lots of dance hits from the '90s.
While the idea is nice, I give Rewind a year, at the most. The P1 appears to be W 25-44 and, in my opinion, there will be minimal effect on WMEE, WDFM & WMYQ. Personally, I love the rhythmic edge but, at the first Britney Spears song or Mariah ballad, I'm switching.
Not to get totally off subject here, but doesn't somebody HAVE to be listening to a station to have an impact on it? I'm referring to WMYQ. Since that station "relaunched" I haven't heard a word muttered of it or otherwise.
I'll mutter this about WMYQ:
I go past the studios, behind a reasonably popular beauty salon, and I wonder if ANYBODY is in there. I think in the morning there is one person, there's a promotional car out front that I see around town occasionally with the "Q101" logo, but other than that it's just THERE.
I see this when I'm in Richard's for the WJHS show "Coffee With The Mayor." (WJHS is the Columbia City High station. I set up the mics and engineer the live shows right now...lack of people that understand cellphone interfaces...) IF there's somebody in there you can't see it from a distance naturally. I think maybe all I see is a light in the lobby...
I think Mike Peters built those studios in Columbia City, but you are right- they are NOT being used. Q101 is being ran out of Angola with the rest of the Swick Stations with Dial Global's Hot AC canned Storq format. The Morning Renegades or whatever they are is being ran on Q101 and WLKI, which is also using Storq. The audio is being fed over the inner webs via fiber to the transmitter for Q. Why, just why they chose to do it this way is beyond me, but they did. It sure as hell wouldn't be how I would of done it, but I'm sure they had a reason.
Well, its been a few months How is Rewind doing in the ratings and is anybody listening? Personally, it sounds like a train wreck the same songs over and over. It also has no website yet up and running. I think they would've been better by going with an AAA Rock format since that hasn't been done yet here in the Fort Wayne area. Guess we will wait until late 2014 when 106.3 changes formats again ;D
