Rewind 107.9 is a pretty impressive classic hits station. It's kinda surprising to finally see 107.9 doing better than 106.1 and 106.9.

Much better than that last incarnation of BIG 98.3's classic hits format, which failed, and 107.9 is a weaker signal but has better market coverage. For the 98.3 classic hits format to have been kinda bad, I was surprised at how good 107.9's is - or maybe it's being out of Apex's hands...I mean it's obviously voicetracked/canned in parts but the presentation is still really good.

I have to admit, I'll always associate 107.9 with WLOW, though. Did anything on that frequency even do well since WLOW until recently? The Coast was certainly no smash...

Actually Alpha Media owns Rewind 107.9 (along with 106.1, 106.9, 100.1, 98.3 and 1130AM/93.5).
 
It's not bad if that is your respected genre of music. I do find it a bit too hit based but I guess that is in the name "Classic Hits". I lean harder so would love to see a more deeper cut classic rock/hits station to go against the lack luster very selective WIXV. 107.9 does have a better presentation than Big.
 
Ah I meant Triad, not Apex as the former owner.

It's nice to see something that's not long established doing well in Savannah. 107.9 had been a troubled station since even the WLOW days. IMO Rewind sounds better than 104.9 The Surf whose music tends to be a bit too old for my tastes.

Big's reboot didn't seem to have very much effort involved. That station also has signal issues - it starts breaking up as soon as you get in to SC. Given its huge rural coverage area, I think it's best suited for perhaps a mainstream country format instead of the continued attempts at 106.9 who has a much better full market SAV/HHI/Beaufort coverage. Can't believe the market has 2 classic country stations.

You know, compared to similar sized metro areas - The Savannah market has a lot of older leaning AC orientated stations. You have Surf, 107.9, 105.3 (yes it leans older for an AAA station), The River, and many other stations that just have a large variety of older songs (pre 1990) including The Hawk, SC 103, and I-95. This will not be able to sustained and with the recent ratings, I almost wonder if The River won't tilt more in a modern soft rock/hits direction or even flirt with Hot AC. Doesn't IHeart tweak their AC stations by market? Would seem to me with the abundance of older ac & rock stations that The River could easily go in a WSB FM Atlanta direction and become a AC/Hot-AC hybrid and lean newer. More of a soccer mom alternative to the hip hop on 97.3 Kiss FM.
