Rewind Music

Anybody else impressed with the sound of Rewind? Their music seems a lot cleaner lately. At first I thought they were pretty repetitive, but they aren't too bad for the format they have going now. I always thought both Mix and Rewind should have jingles, but I know they don't believe in jingles over there at The Columbus Radio Group. Anybody else think Saga may have some of the best-sounding stations in the market? Mix added Flo Rida this week. Could we hopefully see more of a CHR lean with them soon?

Rewind is ok although I think they sounded a lot better back when they first launched. I tried to give Mix a chance lately but I just don't like them at all. Saga really needs to flip Mix into something else IMO.

Whenever you have a rimshot station, it's better to go with a format geared towards a younger demographic. Older people, in my experience, don't seem to notice rimshot stations for some reason. Example: When 103.1 switched to urban (btw if you're going to switch to urban it's best not to play clippers games every night), and when they were an active rock station, all the kids seemed to notice right away. I can pretty much guarantee if we had no AC or Hot AC station in the market, and 103.1 switched to either one of those formats, the older demographics wouldn't notice. They probably wouldn't even know the station exists.

I used to think Clippers Games on WSMZ was the worst idea possible when I was with the station. That was when they remembered to pay us from time to time too.

Mix really does need to flip to CHR. Doing a Hot AC format that needs office listeners on a rimshot signal is just not a good idea for the long run. I feel if kids knew there was an alternative to WNCI, they'd be all over Mix.

I remember when Z103 was Urban. It was a pretty good sounding urban for the most part, but the Clippers games killed me. I wish someone would try a Urban again.

Gary Richards may have been responsible for getting the Clippers Games on WSMZ. He is big on
sports and worked for Stop 26 Riverbend, the owners of WSMZ back then.. You also worked for Stop 26 Riverbend back then?

Completely agree about Rewind.  Sounds great.  Too bad it doesn't have a better signal.  If it weren't for Sunny, Rewind might also be playing selected currents.  And if it weren't for Rewind and Mix being in the same group, still-mostly-snoozy Sunny might move to a much more uptempo music mix, like WSB-FM Atlanta which is doing extremely well.

I was wondering about whether 93.3 dumping the 80's might have any impact in Rewind, but I doubt it because they are such different-sounding stations and core eras.  I find it interesting that 93.3 seemed to actually *increase* the tempo upon dropping the 80's and freshening the music (a good thing -- they usually have a more-compelling sound these days) .  Of course, they were only playing about one 80's an hour...

Heard Rewind play Avril Lavigne and Outkast. They would definitely be playing Lady Gaga and Pink if it wasn't for Sunny and Mix. Mix has also increased their CHR lean.

I always thought that Saga should have put mix on 103.5 since it is the strongest of the 3 rimshots they have. 107.9 could have kept the oldies and 104.3 the smooth jazz. Of course with smooth jazz going south 104.3 could have returned to simulcast 103.5 as a hot ac to give Columbus a better coverage of Mix. If saga still wanted to start rewind it could have returned to the former 80's signal on 107.9.

The bad thing about Star 107.9 was is that it came out at a time when a bunch of the 80's music was still being shared with other stations. You all must remember when WNCI from 5pm to 3am played Friday night 80's every friday night. The 80's were good but well overplayed at the time. With the 70's through early 2000's music mix it sort of helps rewinds music.

I've been a huge fan of Rewind since they came around, and even more so since Gen X went crappy a few months back. Sound is crisp, format keeps moving, talent is good, etc. No one around here is doing exactly what they're doing as far as the genre.
103.5 comes in wonderfully here in Thornville, but it gets clobbered within 30-35 miles of the tower before you even get to Zanesville by their low-power 103.3 (Radio U relay I believe) and "Highway Country" 103.7, which supposedly is directional away from Columbus. Before 103.7 was on the air, 103.5 was still pretty listenable out there once you got out from under 103.3 slop.

And that makes me think... what's the best sounding Saga station? Mix is sounding more CHR-leaning everyday, but they tend to get repetitive quick (as most CHR's do). Sunny 95 reminds me of a "Fresh" AC station. They sound really big city from when I listen to them, and I like it. Rewind though always catches me by surprise. Their format has definitely evolved, and it'd evolve even more if it wasn't for Sunny there. They have them sounding tight. Mix is the "current hit station", Sunny is the "soft pop station for at work" and then Rewind is the "feel good station" covering many decades of hit music. I love it. I don't like that most of their jocks are VT'd and they'll often use a jock from another station to fill a shift. I also think they should use jingles, but I think TJ is against them. Overall though, he's done a magnificent job.
