Rey Ruiz out at El Zol

As to his career as a radio jock, he's singing "No me acostumbro." Rey Ruiz's show no longer appears on the website.

To be fair, it was expected. Zeta 92 was the death knell for him. Zol is no longer the salsa station.

I wonder what they'll have in store for mornings now. Probably will go towards the younger demos, so probably a show in the vein of sister WODA's "El Despelote", which aims towards that market in Puerto Rico. Zol is an increasingly urban station, too, so not a bad idea.

Probably Laz once the noncompete runs out, and likely an all English approach like the newly reformatted "L.A. 96.3" will be starting Monday.... more rhythmic, much less urban/hurban.

Mr. Gleason.....will Univision lawyer-up over the name "L.A. 96.3", as they have "LA 101.9"?

The name of KSCA is "La 101.9" or "La Ciento Uno Punto Nueve." It means "the 101.9.

KXOL is "L. A. 96.3" or "Elle-lay ninty six point three." The "L.A." refers to the common name for Los Angeles.

One is a word in Spanish, the other is a set of letters in English.

True, but common sense and radio history dictate that the "LA" in Univision's "LA 101.9" is a double entendre meaning "the" and "Los Angeles". If Univision doesn't raise a stink about this and at least send a C&D to SBS, they might as well raise a white flag and admit to getting bullied and bitchslapped by Raulito.

I know Univision Radio has had massive conniptions over lesser offenses in the past.

No, it's not. "Laah" means "the" in Spanish, and Los Angles is not referred to as "Ellay Ah" in that language... in fact, it is not abbreviated or nicknamed at all in Spanish. "L.A." as a short form of "Los Angeles" is strictly an Anglophone construct and KSCA is pretty much 100% a Spanish dominant station.

They might do it just to prove a point... just like the absurd way that KKHJ got to be KHJ... but it's not very likely. A C&D would have been sent last week when the name became widely known...

I know Univision Radio has had massive conniptions over lesser offenses in the past.

But generally, those cases were based on an actual usage...
