BMI has filed a federal copyright infringement lawsuit against Reynolds Radio’s rhythmic CHR '106.9 The Blaze' KAZE, Ore City, TX for allegedly failing to obtain a license to air music that’s part of its repertoire.

Among the violating tracks: 'Gold Digger' by Kanye West, 'Vision Of Love' by Mariah Carey and 'Before I Let Go' by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. BMI hasn’t asked the court for any specific amount, but it’s seeking copyright fees and damages from the station.

Interesting.....They must not be paying thier BMI fees. I wonder if ASCAP and SESAC are going to doing the same???

Has there been a settlement on this? And does the GM still work there after this debockle?

Interesting. I had heard months ago they were behind on their music fees, but I figured either it was an exaggeration or they got caught up. Guess not. Last I heard, the GM was still there. The fall of the Blaze continues.

Ken Reynolds is one of the nicest and best people I have ever met, and it is sad that the stations are having these problems. Between losing his dad and his son, he really doesn't deserve this headache.

I've never met the family, but I've heard good things (as I'm sure most radio people have), and wish Ken Reynolds the best. That said, there's obviously some major problems going on around his East Texas stations, and something needs to be done with his management. People are working for the Reynolds family at that station, and I'm sure most of the people don't have anything to do with management not paying the bills for one of the top stations in the market.

It's kind of odd because from the way I've heard it since Ken's son passed away a couple of years ago, his heart hasn't really been in the radio business. So he's left all the radio bussiness up to the local GM.

Well, the Blaze is down in the ratings and getting sued by BMI, and his talk station is drawing a 0.9. I guess the only way that makes sense on a continuing basis is if ownership isn't paying any attention. It's really a shame.

Well the Blaze doesn't buy the arbitron ratings anyway, plus 6+ numbers mean pretty much nothing. In East Texas all that matters is sales, and Ive heard that sales over there is hurting really bad. I am surprised that Ken hasn't sold the stations or made a management change? It's a very odd situation!
