RFF IS ONE YEAR OLD TOMORROW

So what does everyone think, they are one year old tomorrow, going to have a Ramones weekend, Joey's birthday is Monday Rest His Soul...How do you think they did the first year, did they fill the Alternative void. I think they sounded better when they first signed on, last summer was great, with many tunes that were never played here or been awile since they were played, after YSP signed on they kinda started to sound like YSP minus the hard rock. They would of did better, if YSP did not return to rock at the end of the summer. I do hear they are climbing in the ratings once again, what do you all think...what should they do or not do, which would make them better, I say play more deeper cuts and a broader range of bands instead of playing what YSP and MMR play....

I'm digging it! They definitely had a tough act to follow after coming in with all the cool shit that hadn't been played in awhile, but they've definitely settled into a good groove. Good new stuff, lots of the tried and true faves, and still lots of surprises and deep stuff like Nirvana tunes that don't get played on mmr or ysp. They've also introduced some great features the morning Cover song thing, the acoustic tracks on Sunday morning, and the Local thing they do on Fridays is cool. Only bummer is that it seems like they're playing more commercials, although still a lot less than any of the other stations I flip to.

The nameless voices they've got that sound like voicetracks are devoid of any personality. It robs the station of any opportunity they might've had for listener intimacy.

I've heard enough flippant remarks and mispronunciations from the woman doing afternoons to know that this station doesn't give a crap about the music it's playing or the region it's playing it to.

That having been said, I think the mix of music has improved, even if the commercials have increased at the same pace. The new 104.5 HD-2 sounds pretty good and is usually my second or third destination on the dial if I can't tune in Y-Rock.

I gotta say its refreshing to hear musically informed DJ's who are not full of themselves. We do have some legitmate personalities (like Pierre) who have earned the right to blab. But there are so many wannabees that nobody cares about in this market (like Jackson). The RFF jocks are good at giving some music tidbits without trying too hard to be personalities. I say thumbs up.

I agree they sound great and I dont care for blabbing jocks including Pierre that are so non stop rambling. Feet is just angry at anything he doesnt approve of....so take his post with a grain of sand....

I disagree with the notion that the RFF folks know about, or even care about the music they're playing. If I had a nickel for each time the woman in the afternoon butchered a commonly-known band name, I'd be rich: (e.g. "that was 'My' with 'The Black Parade'" - for My Chemical Romance - evidently, there was a typo on the cue card). The other day she quipped that Marilyn Manson only seems to be successful when he's covering other artists, then gave no evidence to support that thought before cutting to commercial. I'm not necessarily a Marilyn Manson fan, but I know enough about music to know that he's got some hits of his own. I guess the list of ClearChannel-approved MM tracks says otherwise?

Just because a jock knows what they're talking about doesn't automatically make them full of themselves. Neither does being able to connect with their audience. RFF jocks might not ramble on or present themselves as egotistical, but that doesn't mean that they can't know their stuff and really make a meaningful connection with listeners.

I'm not angry. However, I am annoyed at the idea that I can't speak up and say I don't like something when it goes against the flow. I guess if everyone else on the R-I boards thinks RFF is great, then maybe I should keep my opinions to myself and let you guys slap each other on the back about it?

I agree with carnyfeet. Not that I want a station full of blabbers, but one of the things I miss about y100, was the connection the majority of their dj's made with listeners.

So yeah, a little maybe interaction on the phones, and such wouldn't be too bad.

They are sounding OK.... could be better with tunes like... All I know-S-Trees, Waters Edge-SMThree, Sister-Nixons, they started out OK but now you dont hear S-Trees, Pistols, Iggy, Adam Ant, Smithereens all these acts have been eliminated for some reason and replaced by the same tired MMR/YSP staple.... Alternative acts as RHCP, Nirvanna, Weezer, they should also open up the playlist wide and deep....

Y100 was one hell of a radio station. There's no getting past that.

Not really. They were the trite end to a trite 'alternative' world.

Terminal boredom.

Well, it's hard to like a station if you don't like its format - which you apparently don't. But, given the choice of WRFF or Y100, I'd go with Y100 any day of the week.
But, it is good to have the format back. We have it back here in Hartford too, but the naysayers are already prediscting its demise.

Well, obviously Y-100's owners care about yer druthers.

Satellite and internet will suffice.

I dunno I think RFF is much better than Y, Y never played S-Trees, Smiths, New Order, Flys, Chevelle and they would not play some new breaking acts such as PATD, FOB, Simpleplan, Coldplay and a load of others. Plus we had to deal with pretty boy Cord and the stuck up B--Electra. Although the Sonic Sessions were great and some jocks were ok, I will still go with 1045 anyday.
