Does anyone have a link to a datasheet on this coax? Can't seem to find much info on this stuff online. Is it foam or does it need to be pressurized with Nitrogen.. We will be using a TPO of around 2.5-2.8kw. Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the reply Brad. I've got it in hand. Around 300 feet of it. It's in great shape. I plan on using it but I don't know if I need to pressurize it or not. Trying to find out if it is foam or air. It has connectors on it and I'm trying to avoid taking them off. If it is air and I'm running 2.5kw into it, is it safe not to pressurize it?
If its designed for pressure then it needs to be pressurized no matter the power your putting on it. You don't have to cut the end off to check. you just need 2 big C wrenches and pull the first half of the connector to see if its foam filled or air, also you could look at the connectors on each end and see if there is a gas barer on one. Also, the spec i saw said about 2" diameter, is that the case or is it smaller?
I didn't actually measure it but it seems to be 2-2.25". I'll check it out when I am the site later this week. I did read somewhere that with air, you don't need to pressurize it if you are running under 3kw TPO or so. But I'd like to confirm that.
If it is air dielectric, and you don't keep pressure on it, moisture >will< eventually work its way into the line. This will do Bad Things. If the connectors are factory installed, you may well find it is pressure tight, and can hook a bottle of nitrogen to it at a pound or two, and not have to worry for several years.
Since it's air dielectric, there should be some kind of a gas fitting on one end of the coax. If there is no gas fitting, it's possible that the cable has never been pressurized and that moisture may have contaminated the internal spacers. The only way to find out is to pressurize the coax, put some power through it and measure the loss.
Today I checked it more thoroughly. I seems to be in Great shape. The connector on it did indeed have a nitrogen cap. The other end did not have a connector on it but I have 2 spares. It is 2 inch and is indeed air. I believe I will use it. We do plan on using nitrogen on it. Thanks EVERYONE for your help.
