Hey just want yall opinions on tv news stations in the valley.

Personaly i watch KGBT Action 4 News more then KRGV NewsChannel 5. mainly because of personality. theres great bunch of great people that work at 4 from Larry James to Martha Benavedis (spelling?) Not that im sayng 5 is a bad station, they just boring.
anyways just want to know yalls opinions since it isnt talked much on here.

I think KVEO has the best news of all!

Seriously, I tend to watch Channel 4 most of the time. Their chicks are better looking. Newswise, both are good and I don't think there is a big difference between the two. Both have good weather departments, but I prefer Bryan Hale on Ch. 4. As far as Sports goes, there is no comparison. KGBT blows KRGV away. Channel 4 has a bigger focus on local sports, especially during football season. I'm not saying that reports about the Astros, Cowboys, Spurs, etc.... are not important, but that's the same thing you can get on Sportscenter or the Southwest Sports Report on FOXSW.

The only thing I don't like about Channel 4 is that Speed Zapper guy. If i ever see him with his radar gun, I'm gonna run over him!

Will this station ever have a local newscast? They do air local weather forecasts during "Friends" and "Raymond". That's a step in the right direction. The new Fox station is supposed to start a newscast next year.

KVEO Tried twice in the early 80s, once right after it went on (which was a disaster) and again a year or so later when Ron Olivera(!) was anchor. I was working at KRGV-TV at that time and I don't mind telling you that both KGBT and KRGV were concerned for a (short) time about KVEO.

For some reason during the original testing, that UHF put a stronger, and certainly clearer, signal into McAllen than either of our stations. But when it finally signed on and didn't even have a clear line to NBC it was obvious that (at that time) the station was no threat.

But back to the news portion of this thread...I left KRGV more than 20 years ago and while I do still have many friends down there I am a bit concerned with the large number of accidents/murders/etc. that seem to make up their newscast. As for KGBT, well, they try.

Does anyone have any recent numbers for the newscasts down there?
